Why dogs get restless in the car
Movement, noise, a closed space and often a memory linked to the trip (the vet, the kennels): for many dogs the car is an unfamiliar place. The aim is to make it predictable and familiar.
The routine before leaving
- A few minutes before, 2–3 sprays of HomeDog in the car or carrier: the car smells like its bed.
- Two or three strokes of TranquiDog behind the ears or on the collar.
- Let it get in calmly and settle it safely in its usual spot.
- On long trips, stop regularly.
Getting used to it with short trips
Start with a few minutes, to a place it likes (a park, a walk), so the car is linked to something nice. Lengthen the trips little by little.
