Restless horse with the farrier, in the trailer or at the vet: what to do

Team ON-H Updated October 21, 2026 1 min read

● The gesture Near the nostrils, not inside
In short

For the farrier, the trailer or the vet, prepare the moment calmly, keep your horse's routine and, 10–15 minutes before, apply TranquiON near the nostrils without touching them. Used every day too, it becomes a familiar signal your horse links to calm.

The moments that test it

The farrier, loading into the trailer, the vet's visit, clipping, a new place: these are situations outside the routine, with different noises, smells and people. Every horse reacts in its own way; what we can do is make these moments more predictable.

What helps, in practice

  • Predictability: same times, same place, same sequence.
  • Gradual habituation: practise loading calmly even on days when you're not travelling.
  • Time: don't arrive in a rush. Your horse reads your hurry.
  • A scent signal: a scent it finds every day also accompanies it in special moments.

How to use TranquiON

  1. 10–15 minutes before the difficult moment, take the roll-on.
  2. Make three strokes near the nostrils, not inside.
  3. Use it every day too, before work, as part of the routine.

TranquiON is a roll-on with lavender, sweet orange, vetiver, patchouli and frankincense. It's ON-H's signature product.

Frequently asked questions

Can it be used before a competition?

Yes. We have checked every ingredient against the FEI list of prohibited substances. Here is the routine for competition day.

Does it help build trust with a new horse?

For the first approach there's TrustON: one stroke on you and one near its nostrils, for a scent you share.

On the horse map, under «Head and muzzle», you'll find TranquiON and TrustON with the routine ready.
